Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway

File:Bullets over Broadway movie poster.jpg

Join me at LIU/CWPost campus on Feb 3th, 1-3 PM.

I have decided to create a lecture about Woody Allen’s, Bullets Over Broadway for several reasons.

1-    It is very funny.

2-    It has a great cast.

3-    And most importantly:

Woody Allen has taken his movie and adapted it into a brand new Broadway musical which will open in March!

The 1994 motion picture was nominated for seven Academy Awards and is regarded as one of Woody Allen's recent comedy classics.

New Programs at Hutton House (LIU/CW Post)

It was a pleasure discussing The Great Dictator, To Be or Not To Be and The Producers at Hutton House last month. (And an extra thank you to those who participated in the Jack Benny/Bob Hope program.)

Our next series of programs is Cinematic Couples:    January 15, 22, 29, from 10-12

I think you will find the subject matter interesting. We will dissect three memorable Hollywood couples who made multiple films together.

Myrna Loy & William Powell
Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

We will examine their individual careers as well as their on screen, and off screen, relationships.

We will discuss 3 motion pictures that are considered classics in its own genre:
The Thin Man – mystery; The Blue Dahlia – film noir, and Swing Time – musical.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at this email address.
In the meanwhile, enjoy the rest of this glorious summer! Hope to see you next year.

Mel Brooks

My favorite Mel Brooks lyrics from The Producers:

It's really no mystery
Whether its politics or history
All you have to know is
Everything is Show Biz!

Ain't it the truth!

— BOB HOPE & JACK BENNY —
It’s all in the timing…

Jack Benny was the acknowledged master of comedic timing.
Bob Hope was the acknowledged master of comedic timing.
Yet their comedy styles were polar opposites of one another.
Benny excelled in delivering his material with ease; he could do more with a gesture than most comedians could do with an entire monologue.

From the early days of his illustrious career Hope’s style was that of the brash, fast talking comedian. His quick wit and self-deprecating humor made Bob Hope America’s most celebrated and decorated comedian of our time. Opposite styles with one common result: they were two very funny men! Relive their lives and their humor in this entertaining examination of two of America’s most beloved Comedy Icons.
